What is the “Right” Franchise For Me?

Article written by Lynne Shelton

Many blue-collar workers and professionals alike are taking their savings plans and investing them in themselves. So which franchise system should they invest in? Well the decision to purchase a franchise is the easy part, but choosing the right franchise for you requires several steps of self-identity and in-depth decisions.

Trust A Consultant

There are many companies and professionals that will gladly take your money to provide a self-assessment of your strengths and weaknesses to ensure that “perfect” fit. These companies and professionals are typically called Franchise Consultants.

These companies can give you a lot of information that is not otherwise available. They know the ins and outs of the selection process, including the net worth requirements for franchisor’s. A franchise consultant will also know what the hot new franchise system is. The franchise systems that are extremely profitable and have not yet caught on with the mainstream public can give you an immediate boost for your profit and loss statement. Ultimately though, only you can decide the answer to this question.

Career

If you’re going to be an owner-operator franchisee, which by the way is consistently the most successful, you must pick a franchise system that you will enjoy doing. As the saying goes, if you enjoy what you are doing, you will never work a day in your life. This is true as a franchise owner also. If you cannot see yourself doing that job, do not buy the franchise. Even if you plan to have a manager handle the operations side of the business, there will be a time when you have to hire a new manager, and during that process you will be the one left holding the bag.

There are plenty of choices. Take your time, it is a big industry. With more than 900,000 franchised businesses in operation across country, which are indirectly responsible for providing 21 million jobs and generating $2.3 trillion in economic output, franchises drive the economy. The good news is that there are many “right” choices for you. All in all, it looks like the franchise world is still bustling. It continues to prove itself as the best business expansion tool ever created. So go out and find the best industry for you, and remember you are in the decision seat, take control of your business future and make sure you enjoy the ride.
